Hello there,
Running tap.exe will obtain the the drivers from the target computer, so basically that's all you need. Using Embedded Studio running in a VM won't make any difference as long as you use the .pmq file from the target machine.
Best regards,

Hello there,
That behavior relies in the OS, and not in WDS. And also, starting directly using the network boot is a configuration you can set in the client computer. If you press "Esc" during the process of receiving a valid IP from PXE, it will ignore this process; also of course, you can change it in BIOS settings.
Best regards,
Augusto

Hi , I am currently following the blog , I have a quick question , during Deployment of Windows 7 using WDS , the client restart after 'installing drivers' and 'restarts in 30 seconds' to continue installation .I would like to know how I got skip this restart , and complete the deployment? Due to this the client start booting from PXE again hence getting into this loop. If i manually select the boot source , I am then unable to log in using any credential onto the client. Please help me.

Kind regards

Hi, this for weird partitioning install ...

I m trying to install XPe on a Virtual Machine, to simulate a Siemens PCU50, which is based on a PC + XPe sp2. This machine's drive is organized in 4 partitions

C:Fat (16) primary with MSDOS on it (500mb)
D:NTFS (10gb)
E:NTFS <---- windows XPE should go here (15gb)
F:NTFS (10gb)

I tried a few time, but could not get it to work properly myself... so I found en easy way to get it working.... here it is....

1) prepare the drive as a spare with another machine with PM and setup what ever crazy partitioning you need

2) use a XP Pro OEM to install itself on the partition you want without formating (done by PM)

3) you will observe that windows has put the following files on
c: (fat)
        autoexec.bat
        boot.ini (booting on partition 3!! :))
        config.sys
        IO.sys
        msdos.sys
        ntdetect
        ntdlr
        pagefile.sys
leave it alone...

4) windows XP pro installed itself in E as demanded during install
5) reformat that partition
6) put all the files you have build earlier during Building the Image and the First Boot Agent.
7) reboot on the machine... alleluia... it worked for me

Good luck everyone...

I was facing the problem that the computer has joined the domain and i could see the computer account in AD, but Windows 8 reported a missing computer account.
I fixed this by setting the computer name to * in step 4 specialize: amd64_Microsoft-Windows-Shell-Setup_neutral. Now the Win 8 machine was able to get the random computer name from WDS.
